The first "motion picture" 





1890s Etienne Moray created the first "motion picture" using the negatives on film reels

First film shot with the "Cinematographe" camera
called "Workers leaving the Lumiere factory at Lyon"
Lumiere = "light" in French
Lyon = City in France

People ran out of the theater in Paris because they thought it was real!

1896 - Arrival of the Train by the Lumiere brothers

Silent films:
  - audio (sound) was not yet invented
- An orchestra or piano played alongside the screen inside the theater as the film rolled.



1902
  Georges Melies produced "Voyage to the Moon".
  - 15 minute fantasy film
  - hand-painted film reels created color in the film!



1910 Produced by Edison Studios, this is the first adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein


1915 Alice in Wonderland
